IC Information
CHARACTER NAME: Dante
AGE: ~29-ish?
CANON: Devil May Cry
CANON POINT: Between the fourth and second games.
FAMILY TYPES:
Dark Area: As a half demon, Dante is literally a creature of darkness, with violent and sometimes animalistic instincts. Though he keeps his darker nature mostly in check, a bit of a mean streak occasionally shows in a childish sense of humor and he finds entertainment in his job as a demon slayer.
Dragon's Roar: Dante is the sort to enjoy a party, the louder and more energetic the better. He's outgoing, social and more stubborn than a mule, with a powerful sense of duty, a flashy sense of style and a hatred of boredom that frequently puts him in the middle of the action.
Virus Busters: Despite the influence of his demonic half and violent tendencies, Dante has a strong sense of justice and honor, believing that its his duty to protect the helpless from other demons that aren't so kind. Even after getting the revenge for his mother that he began demon hunting for, he continues to dedicate his life to the destruction of evil with little regard for compensation, while openly welcoming those few demons that show a more human nature.
APPEARANCE: Dante is tall and broad shouldered, with a short mop of white hair and a constant 5-o-clock shadow framing a ruggedly handsome face. He prefers to wear a black shirt and chaps with matching gloves and belts across his stomach and chest, along with red jeans and a matching western-style leather long coat.
Because neither his human or demon forms are any more real than the other, the Digital World will be having some difficulty figuring out which one he should look like. As a result, some of his demonic traits will be bleeding in to his human form as the two are combined and the results shifted more towards humanoid. His forehead, nose, chest and back will have patches of thick red scales, while his hands, forearms and legs will be similarly scaled in dark purple and black. His fingers will end in monstrous looking claws, while his eyes glow a pale red that conceals his pupils and irises. His canine teeth will be slightly longer and sharper than a human's, although the rest of his teeth will favor his human side.
PERSONALITY: Dante is, in a nutshell, an arrogant, lazy pervert with a secret heart of gold. Because of his demonic blood and ability to shrug off any wound, he has a tendency to think of himself as untouchable. He often sacrifices practicality in favor of what looks cool, sometimes with embarrassingly disastrous results, and never hesitates to mouth off to opponents. Though he's mellowed over the years and learned to be more considerate of others, he retains a childish tendency to brag about his own appearance and to shamelessly flirt with anyone he finds even remotely attractive.
In fact, Dante is rather childish in many ways. He eats a steady diet of junk food, regularly forgets to clean up after himself, refuses work unless it interests him and treats most of his fights like a game. Only when a situation calls for his full attention does he show any hint of maturity, proving himself to be surprisingly observant, clever and capable in both physical and mental tasks. Even when serious, he retains a casual, laid back attitude that can make it difficult to tell he isn't still toying, but his actions show insight into both the emotions of others and the needs of the situation.
The only time Dante drops the childish act completely is when genuinely angered. While generally slow to lose his temper, he becomes terse and to the point when pushed past the breaking point. The easiest way to do so is to offend his sense of honor and justice or to hurt someone he cares about. Despite his seemingly carefree attitude, he has a strong code of honor that forbids betraying someone's trust or bringing lethal harm to ordinary humans, regardless of how vile. In his viewpoint, strength is meant to be used to protect the helpless.
This does not mean, however, that he thinks of humans as pathetic or weak. He views them as fragile and incapable of matching demons on a purely physical level, but the heart is where he sees real power. He sees in humans a drive and determination to protect what they treasure that demons, selfish creatures interested only in personal gain and destroying everything beneath them, almost universally lack. This, more than his demonic heritage, is where he sees the true strength that has allowed him to defeat two of the most powerful demons known to history.
That same drive is a major part of who he is at his core. Though he might seem indifferent and uncaring, his laid back attitude is, in reality, a reflection of unexpected patience. When he has a goal, he will stick with it, even if it takes him a decade or more and never falters, whether that goal is to avenge a major wrongdoing, save the world or simply to get a pizza without olives. He's been noted as being incredibly capable on the job, never failing his clients even if the task requires something that would ordinarily be his weakness.
Part of his drive comes from sheer stubbornness, but it's also in large part due to his compassionate and righteous nature. His sense of right and wrong and desire to do good in the world often leads him to accept jobs with no promise of compensation, only caring about the fact that someone is in need of his particular skills and talents. While he won't turn down pay, he simply doesn't have it in him to refuse to help someone in danger simply because they can't afford his usual rates, even though he might occasionally put on a show of being coldhearted to keep himself from seeming soft or easily taken advantage of. Nor does his kindness stop at humans. Though rare, he does acknowledge the existence of demons that have turned from their evil natures to develop human feelings and treats them the same as he would any ordinary human being.
Another part of his determination comes from pride. He enjoys putting on a show whenever possible and believes, not without justification, that he's unstoppable and close to invincible. Admitting defeat isn't an option, nor is showing weakness that might ruin his image.
But under the cocky bravado is severe emotional damage. Having lost his entire family and grown up in a world where he didn't quite fit due to his existence as a halfbreed, Dante feels a deep sense of loneliness. Though he does his best to keep his friends close, his missing relatives are always on his mind, to the point that he spent ten years of his life searching for revenge for his mother's death and incorporates homages to his brother's style and combat technique when wielding his sword.

FIRST PERSON: Test drive thread.
THIRD PERSON: Dante was not in a good mood. He'd been in a good mood two hours ago, when he was on the way from Fortuna back to home sweet home after saving the world yet again and finding out that he wasn't the last descendant of Sparda after all, but that was then. That was when he'd been in his own world, with his powers and without visible demonic traits. Now he was in some other world, reduced to the limits of a completely human body, told he had to help save the entire multiverse now and had he mentioned that he had traits from his demon form in his human form. And that wasn't even counting the fact that all of his devil arms, alchemical items and magical orbs had come flying out of their enchanted storage area and buried him the moment he'd arrived.
While he'd long ago shed the shame over his demonic half, claws, scales and, according to his new partner, glowing red eyes didn't tend to make a good first impression. In fact, they tended to make the kind of first impression that left people crossing themselves and running in the opposite direction before the demon in question even opened his fanged mouth to say hi. Still, displeasure at the circumstances of his arrival wasn't enough to make him refuse the people here. If the worlds were bleeding into each other, that was a serious concern, and closing gates seemed to be becoming something of a specialty of his.
Thinking about that, he paused halfway down the steps of the terminal, hair combed down over his eyes and the scales on his forehead and claws hidden within his once demonic gauntlets.
“Damn...” He muttered to himself, shaking his head. “I really am turning into my old man at this rate. I gotta stop getting dragged into sealing off these gates.”
Not that he would. As much as he hated following in his father's foot(hoof?)steps, as much as he wanted to live his own life out of the shadow of Sparda's legend, he knew he couldn't leave these things up to amateurs. Though maybe at least this time, people would remember his name and not just who he was related to.
